Portraits of Young Women

I find portraits so intriguing because you can choose to capture someone in any manner. A painting can express so much more about the subject than a photo, as it is up to the artist's creativity.

Danielle Lauder is an 18-year-old high school student and artist. She has shared some of her amazing portraits with HuffPost Teen.

Most of my paintings and drawing are portraits of myself, friends, or icons. I find portraits so intriguing because you can choose to capture someone in any manner. A photograph can only show what they choose to project. However, a painting or drawing can express so much more about the subject as it is up to the artist's creativity. In addition to trying to capture likeness and realism in my work, I am very interested in intricate designs and patterns. The tedious aspect of repeating curvilinear lines and dots is an important skill in creating artwork that I have come to thoroughly enjoy.
