"Daydream Believer": A Playlist For The Late Great Davy Jones

I like to imagine that Davy's playing the Big Room up there right now, and getting ready to take another bow. No doubt, he will take it perfectly. R.I.P. Davy Jones.

Apparently, there are people on Earth who don't love The Monkees. I have no time for those people. I've loved The Monkees my whole life. I only met Davy Jones once. He came to the Rolling Stone office to meet me for lunch once in the late Eighties following one of those popular Monkees reunions. The man was pure show biz -- a classic Old School character. Way before the Monkees, he'd been a child star in his own right, appearing on Coronation Street and later playing the Artful Dodger in Oliver! as a kid on the West End and on Broadway too -- even appearing on Ed Sullivan with the cast the same night as The Beatles played. In other words, Davy Jones -- whose success eventually caused David Bowie to change his name from Jones -- was a star way before the Monkees made a "Daydream Believer" out of me -- and out of millions of others around the world. I like to imagine that Davy's playing the Big Room up there right now, and getting ready to take another bow. No doubt, he will take it perfectly. R.I.P. Davy Jones. Here's how I will remember you today. Please add your own memories of Davy Jones below.
