Smart Food is the Edible Radio podcast hosted by Jane Black. Jane's guest today is Debra Eschmeyer, co-founder of Food Corps.

On April 21, 2009, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The law expanded national service programs and sparked an idea for a new one: Food Corps, a program that will place paid volunteers across the country to help connect farms to schools. Debra has long advocated for farm-to-school programs, arguing that they not only help schools provide healthier meals but that they help create larger, stable markets for small and new farmers. On this episode of Smart Food, Debra explains how Food Corps will help bring local food to schools and why spreading the good-food message beyond the farmers-market crowd is so important.
