On April 21, 2009, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The law expanded national service programs and sparked an idea for a new one: Food Corps, a program that will place paid volunteers across the country to help connect farms to schools. Debra has long advocated for farm-to-school programs, arguing that they not only help schools provide healthier meals but that they help create larger, stable markets for small and new farmers.
