Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF) is thrilled about the UN Announcement on this year's International Women's Day, proposing the convening of a Fifth World Conference on Women in 2015, twenty years after the Beijing 4th International Conference which committed to the advancement of women's human rights.

Given that women compose half of humanity and the inherent importance and relevance of women's issues for global progress, it is high time that such a world conference is convened, more so as the world is going through enormous changes on all fronts having both positive and negative implications for women.

The President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser and the Secretary-General of the United Nations H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon hope that the international community will welcome their joint announcement. Although this is a great step forward, a decision is still needed from UN member states, who have the final authority to convene the proposed conference. We hope that they will endorse and commit to this during the 66th session of the UN GA.

Women's empowerment is key for development, food security and peace, as well as for safeguarding the right to dignity.

What can you do? Send messages to Heads of Governments and UN Ambassadors who can act on this. There is time (though short) before the UN GA ends this summer for a resolution. Mobilize individuals and organizations with power and influence to be heard by decision-makers. Share your opinion and support with the world!
