The first love story put Gabriele on a plane from Italy to Texas. He had shuttered his photography studio to start a new chapter with his then-girlfriend in Houston. When the love story ended, Gabriele started traveling, photographing interesting subjects.
Kirk completed the "Nevermind" assignment over three shoots on location in Southern California. Working at a public pool in Pasadena, he convinced friends to press their four-month-old boy into the service of rock n' roll.
The pool was already empty by then. Some people where brought down into the basin and shot against the blue walls. Others were taken up the highest diving board and thrown off.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
The Hill, or "Little Harlem" as it was referred to from the '30s thru the '50s, was one of the elite African-American neighborhoods in America. It was home to one of the most vibrant jazz scenes in the country, as well as one of its hottest clubs, The Crawford Grill, which was owned by Gus Greenlee.
The timely and thought-provoking exhibition Exposed: Voyeurism, Surveillance and the Camera Since 1870 in San Francisco explores the use and cultural impact of photography made in public spaces.
