From a tranquil oceanfront escape in Sri Lanka to a buzzy, ultra-hip hotel on South Beach, these hotels are our favorite new beach hotels and resorts.
1. Cape Weligama, Galle, Sri Lanka
The team behind Ceylon Tea Trails has opened its latest Relais & Chateaux resort, Cape Weligama, on a 12-acre headland above Sri Lanka's palm-lined southern coast. Between the on-site dive center and the infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean, it offers plenty of outdoor diversions.

You'll also want to spend time in the resort's 40 terracotta-roofed, butler-serviced villas, designed by Thai architect Lek Bunnag within stonewalled wattas, or gardens.

3. Malliouhana (An Auberge Resort), Anguilla
Anguilla is a very Anglo island; and Malliouhana was, for decades, one of its most staunchly traditional hotels. So it was a surprise when quintessentially Californian Auberge Resorts took it over.

4. Malliouhana (An Auberge Resort), Anguilla
What a difference a fresh perspective makes, with lemon-yellow and ice-blue walls, striped cotton dhurries on the floors, and ornate glass sconces that have breathed new life into this Caribbean classic.

5. Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, Turkey
Built along a verdant slope edging Bodrum's Paradise Bay, this contemporary Mandarin Oriental Bodrum offers hard-to-beat vistas. Most of the 109 guest rooms face the deep blue Aegean Sea, which takes center stage thanks to massive walls of windows, ample outdoor terraces, and private gardens with infinity-edge pools in suites.

There's also everything you would expect from a Mandarin Oriental: ultra-modern amenities, sophisticated restaurants, and decadent spa treatments.

7. The Miami Beach EDITION, FL
In increasingly buzzy Mid-Beach, Ian Schrager's Miami Beach EDITION is a cut above the rest of the neighboring properties, with a restrained white and gold interior and two Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurants.

8. The Miami Beach EDITION, FL
There are also two huge swimming pools, a nine-treatment-room spa, an ice rink, and a bowling alley--all on a stretch of perfect Miami beachfront.

9. One&Only Hayman Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Built in the early 1950s off the Great Barrier Reef, the venerated old Hayman Island Resort was looking a bit tired when One&Only stepped into the picture and revitalized it in 2014, turning it into the One&Only Hayman Island.

10. One&Only Hayman Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Cut to about half a year later, and Hayman is transformed--made bright and sleek with combinations of shiny chrome and light oak, washed-tropical colors, and acres of transparent white voile linen.
