I saw the Broadway double-Tony-winner musical Newsies at the SHN Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco and I knew nothing about it except the title... and I had a bobblehead. It runs through March 15th. Here are 10 things I learned:

1. Harvey Fierstein wrote the book.

2. It's based on a true story from the newsboys strike in New York City in 1899.

3. Joseph Pulitzer and Theodore Roosevelt are key characters in the play.

4. Newsies started out as a movie in 1992.

5. The actor Julian DeGuzman who plays Finch is a Filipino-American who grew up in Alameda.

6. It was on Broadway for two years.

7. Thirty dancers had their Broadway debut in the show.

8. It was directed by Jeff Calhoun who played at the Orpheum as an actor.

9. It was the fastest of any Disney musical on Broadway to recoup its initial investment, $5 million which was recouped in 7 months.

10. Its suitable for the entire family.

Peace, love, compassion and blessings.
