The media world is becoming increasingly fragmented. While journalists still hold sway in mainstream media, podcasts are becoming a popular way for niche experts to become thought leaders.

Podcasters use audio and video to upload their 'show' straight to the internet. It's a free and easy way to create content that can get your voice heard.

As an industry expert, podcasts are a great way for you to demonstrate your personal brand and reach a highly engaged audience who are related to your specific field of interest.

There are two ways in which you can successfully build your personal brand with podcasts. You can either create your own, which takes a lot of time to cultivate new topics and keeping it up to date. The other is to be interviewed by other podcasters.

Podcasters always need new content. Some podcasters do weekly shows; therefore they have to find someone to interview every single week. That person could be you.

Here are some tips for getting interviewed on a podcast.

1.Take the time to research

When deciding to add podcasts to your PR strategy, the first place to start is research.

Research podcasters that discuss topics related to your business. Offering your specific knowledge to a more niche podcast will ensure you show your expertise as a thought leader in your field.

Decide where you want your information to be directed, and research the demographics of that audience. You should research the age, gender, ethnicity, and economic status of the viewers and listeners to ensure you are hitting the right target.

2.The pitch

Write a vibrant pitch that will help podcasters understand what you can talk about and who you are. The information you put into this pitch should be what you think will help the podcaster chose you as their guest interviewee.

3.Contacting them

While researching, make sure you record contact details of relevant podcasts. If there is an email address, use that. Many don't have email addresses, and you need to upload your pitch via an online contact form. This can be time consuming and it makes it hard to follow up with them. However, don't let this deter you and make sure you follow up.

The other way to contact podcasters is on Twitter. This can be a direct but effective way to get noticed and tee up an interview.

The more podcasts you do, the more well-known you become as a thought leader. You will soon grow your networking skills and direct followers to your business and social media pages.
