People Watching 3D TVs

One of the most iconic images of 3D TV technology is a black and white photograph taken in a movie theater decades ago. The audience--serious and riveted--is shown staring at a screen beyond the photographer and wearing the boxy black frames of 3D glasses (See image below).

For the second year in a row, 3D TVs made up one of the most robust product categories at the International Consumer Electronics Show, the world's largest consumer tech expo. The high-tech TV sets on display at booths belonging to big brands like Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic attracted gaping crowds.

We watched people watching 3D TVs and while the sets may be thinner and the image clearer, the trademark chunky black glasses remain.

Can 3D TVs gain mainstream appeal until they work without glasses? Tell us what you think below.
