405 Crash Shuts Down Freeway, Causing Traffic NIGHTMARE

UPDATE: KNX 1070 Tweets "All lanes of NB 405 at National reopening. Sig alert lifted after 7+ hours."

A morning rush hour accident involving a CHP motorcycle officer has left the 405 freeway completely shutdown in West LA, causing a traffic nightmare throughout the westside.

KTLA reports:

A driver illegally passing traffic on the right shoulder triggered a major accident that closed the San Diego (405) Freeway in West Los Angeles and left a CHP motorcycle officer hospitalized in critical condition, according to a CHP sergeant.

The accident happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, according to CHP spokesman Francisco Villalobos. Both sides of the freeway are closed at National Boulevard, creating a massive traffic backup.

Some lanes have reopened southbound, but northbound traffic remains closed indefinitely.
