Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Disney’s “Moana” introduces us to a new kind of Disney heroine, and according to the voice of Moana, Auli’i Cravalho, being a real Disney Princess is easier than you thought.
In other words, you’ll know why all those bobcats are grinning in no time.
1. Want animals to follow you around when you sing? There’s an easy trick.
Cravalho tells The Huffington Post that, although animals don’t follow her on their own, there is an easy way to get them into your singing.
“My cat does follow me around whenever I’m moving about the house. I’m pretty sure it’s just because I keep treats in my pocket,” she said.
2. Tap into your own magic powers.
Many Disney Princesses have special abilities. Even Moana, an atypical Disney heroine, has a magical connection with the ocean; however, Cravalho says believing in yourself is the most powerful trait of all.
When talking about getting the role, the actress said, “I realized that I can pretty much do anything I set my mind to. I wasn’t planning on getting this role, but I’m so incredibly happy with where I’ve ended up. Without me trying out for it, without me going out on that limb, I would’ve never known.”
“My secret power is believing in myself. I’m never not going to believe in myself ever again,” said Cravalho.
3. Again, your animal sidekicks are all about food.
The movie has a great line where Maui says that Moana is a princess because she has an animal sidekick.
Cravalho told us she can’t actually talk to animals but whenever she goes to eat, her cat knows to follow.
“As soon as I stand up, she knows to bolt into the kitchen,” said Cravalho.
If you want your own animal sidekick, it’s all about the treats.
4. Who needs to paint with the colors of the wind? Just use some watercolors.
Painting with the colors of the wind sounds difficult, but Cravalho says that isn’t the case.
“I’ve always been a painter actually,” she said, “Especially with watercolors, so I think I can paint with the colors of the wind.”
5. Vanquishing villains is as easy as getting your morning coffee.
Cravalho said villains come in all sorts of forms.
“Mornings are always evil villains for me. Working on a Sunday, that’s a formidable foe, let me tell you,” said Cravalho with a laugh. “I’ve defeated the foe, but coffee has been my best sidekick.”
The actress tells us “Moana” is all about “finding yourself.” Just follow the steps above and you can find yourself living out the Disney Princess life, too.
”Moana” is in theaters now.
