Facebook ads when done right can be an absolute machine and can yield great results. But how do you go from novice to expert? This 5 tips will help you on your way…

Plan & KNOW your objectives

Like with everything planning is crucial and Facebook ads are no exception to the rule. A lot of people know the outcome of what they want from Facebook “To make sales, to get people on a webinar etc,” but knowing how to execute this is a whole different ball game which is where many people get stuck.

If it was that simple to just launch a campaign for conversions add a decent amount of budget behind it and then click submit and then the results just trickle in — Sorry afraid that is not the case!

Don’t get me wrong the plan may change down the line but you need to have something in place rather than playing the guessing game which I see a lot of small businesses doing who don’t really know how to get results from Facebook ads. Many just click the boost button and hope for the best -don’t let this be you!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Believe me when I say you will NEVER Know it all! With the platform changing on near enough a weekly basis, what was working a month ago may not work today! Even though I work on numerous client accounts and spend 6 figures+ a month I still am asking for advice and different ideas from others.

The great thing is there is no set rules in terms of running ads which makes the platform a great place to be. When it comes to asking questions you do want to make sure that you’re asking what I call the “correct questions.” A lot of people are quick to ask questions — when the better way is trying, testing and then asking questions like “how would you have done this?” “What could I have done better?”

First thing is normally — ask yourself first as you may know the answer once you have actually gone and tried, what is the worst that can happen you spend a little bit of money right? When you do this I guarantee you people will be glad to help you if you have tried rather than asking the same questions such as — should I run a PPE ad or WC ad!

Test, Test and Test

You will even surprise yourself once you start to test different strategies. The thing is what you do in on one campaign or ad account may not work on another hence the reason why you always have to be testing!

Even when you think everything is going smooth, then your frequency score goes up, your CPC rises and your sales are less than they should be! This is the exact reason why you have to always be testing.

I think what scares people the most when it comes to testing is that they have to spend and they think that because they are seeing no results it means it’s wasted money when technically it actually isn’t it is actually vital data which will serve you well down the line…

Data is KEY

You will get good results, you will get bad results but the main thing that is happening along the way is that you are collecting precious data! Don’t ever think you’ve spent £100/$100 and made no sales so it is money wasted, look at it as money spent to gather data.

If for example you are running a new campaign and no sales have come in but you have traffic you can then dial down to see what exactly is the reason for getting no sales — whether its the offer, landing page, creatives etc.

Once you change this mindset and even dedicate a portion and time of your budget to just pure testing you will find that you will start to better results and quicker.

Patience

Many people are either too quick to throw in the towel or are looking to get instant results but I am afraid it is not as easy as I have mentioned to making all your campaigns winners! Once you have made your plan stick with it.

Realise early your not going to have it all your own way! Facebook ads are great when it’s going well but when it is not it can be a whole different ball game.

One of the main things I see especially with clients is that they don’t understand that the results you want you are not guaranteed to get from Day 1. At the end of the data, Facebook is a platform and a form of traffic like Adwords, SEO, Direct Mail and TV which all do not yield results straight from the get go.
