Spring has arrived and summer is knocking on the door, so how do we ensure our hair looks the best it possibly can for this busy season? There are some items that simply can’t be ignored if you want amazing looking hair.

First, there are many shampoos on the market lather nicely and may smell good but are not necessarily good for the hair. Many products on the market contain sulfate, surfactants, detergents and other harsh chemicals that can cause the hair to be dry brittle and damaged. Instead, infusing the hair with the right nutrients can make all the difference. This is why I specifically designed my Bio Gen Complex Shampoo and Conditioner. This line is infused with biotin, collagen, Vitamin B 12 and B6, and many additional rich ingredients. Shampoo is never something to scrimp on.

Next, make sure you are taking care of your hair properly while it’s wet. The hair is weakest when it’s wet so use a wide tooth comb versus a brush which can be damaging to your hair. When combing through, take a section and start at your ends then work your way up to the root. This will reduce the damage to the hair versus starting at the root and combing towards the ends. This method puts too much tension on the hair and can cause breakage.

It's also never a good idea to go to bed with any kind of hair ties in the hair because breakage can result as well. It's best to just leave you hair be while you sleep.

When styling be mindful of the styling tools as they can create a lot of damage if not used carefully. I recommend infrared styling tools like the ones in my Tools by Gina line. Infrared technology provides a wave length of light that allows the tools to steam the hair instead of applying direct heat. This action significantly reduces the damage to the hair. Also, the steam from the tools will remove any residue left on the hair from previous products. Don’t forget the little things when using tools as well. For example, pay attention to how close you are holding the dryer to your hair. If it’s placed it to close, especially when using a brush, the extreme heat and tension can lead to breakage without drying the hair any faster.

If hairspray is a product of choice, then make sure to use a clarifying shampoo at least once per week. I personally love the good old fashion baking soda and water treatment which can serve the same purpose. Just mix water with baking soda after shampooing while wet apply baking soda and water to hair. Then, comb through from the hair from roots to the ends with a wide tooth comb. Leave the mixture on the hair for 3 to 5 minutes. This will strip any built up residue from medications, products, etc. Then, shampoo the hair again and apply conditioner. Finally, it’s always good to do a deep conditioner at least once or twice per month. Remember a healthy scalp makes for healthy hair.

Try some of these simple instructions and get ready for the best looking summer hair ever!
