A 911 dispatcher in Columbus, Ohio, is not facing any disciplinary measures after telling an alleged rape victim to "quit crying."
The victim called 911 around 4 a.m. on June 8, ABC News reports. She told the dispatcher that a man had forced her at gunpoint to perform oral sex on him, then stole cash and an iPhone before fleeing the house, according to the New York Daily News.
After the caller describes the suspect, the dispatcher can be heard saying, "“Ma’am, you’re going to have to quit crying so I can get the information from you."
The woman tells the dispatcher that she has "no idea" where the suspect entered the home, and the dispatcher responds, “Well, they’re not going to be able to find him with the information that you’ve given."
At that point, the caller reprimanded the dispatcher, stating: "I don’t know what you deal with every day, but the kind of sympathy you have is zero."
Police, however, did ultimately locate the suspect. Michael Callaghan, 30, was charged with rape and burglary.
The dispatcher's supervisor told WSYX that while the call could have been handled in a better fashion, the dispatcher will not face any discipline since the victim did receive help.
Police say that in the past year, they've gotten only 6 complaints in relation to the many calls they received, according to Raw Story.
Other 911 dispatchers accused of faux pas have not gotten off as easily. An operator in Texas was fired last year after posting a series of racist Facebook comments relating to her job.
