Aaron Taylor-Johnson is apparently set to don new superhero garb in Marvel’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Back in June, it was reported that the "Kick-Ass" actor was the front-runner to portray Quicksilver in Joss Whedon's blockbuster follow-up to "The Avengers." Now, TheWrap notes that Taylor-Johnson has closed a deal to take on the role after verifying that the "Ultron" shooting schedule won't clash with his publicity tour for the forthcoming "Godzilla" remake.

Quicksilver is set to appear in two much-anticipated comic book sequels, "Ultron" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." In "X-Men," the superhero's evil origins will be on display, with Evan Peters ("American Horror Story") taking that role. The "Avengers" sequel picks up after Quicksilver and twin sister Scarlet Witch pledge to fight for good instead. The latter version cannot refer to the character's mutant beginnings, as those aspects are unique to the Fox banner. ("Avengers" is produced by Disney.)

In addition to the two "Kick-Ass" movies, Taylor-Johnson has starred in Oliver Stone's "Savages" and as John Lennon in the 2009 biopic "Nowhere Boy." He'll join Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche in next year's "Godzilla" reboot.

"Ultron" is set to hit theaters May 1, 2015. Taylor-Johnson and Olsen are among a coterie of A-listers that includes Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, James Spader, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Mackie and Cobie Smulders.
