A lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Boulder County Jail's postcard-only mail policy was granted class action status Tuesday.
The decision broadens the scope of the lawsuit to include all current and future detainees at the jail, not just those named in the suit.
The Boulder County Jail implemented the postcard-only policy after two registered sex offenders were accused of trying to "groom" girls in letters from the jail. Inmates can only send mail on jail-issued postcards. The only exception is for mail designated as legal or official.
