I love attending a fun holiday wedding! Not only do I take full advantage of all the seasonal foods spread out before me (think 4th of July summer fruit salads, free-range chicken shish kebabs on the grill and fresh organic desserts) but I also love repurposing holiday décor from years past. This is a great cost saver for eco-friendly brides on a budget. If you don't already have red, white and blue party goods, shop for new sustainable décor and serving ware to match the theme!

The 4th of July is the perfect day for a low key summer barbeque wedding in a backyard. Everyone has the day off for the holiday so the bride and groom will receive a great guest turnout. I get the chance to relax and take in the spectacle of amazing fireworks, plus there's always a free fireworks show in plain view.

You can go green without any extra effort for Independence Day. Buy cutlery and serving ware made from sustainable materials like compostable bagasse or sustainable bamboo. You can reuse items year after year instead of throwing out plastic items that may end up in a landfill.
I always use organic insect repellent and sunscreen during 4th of July celebrations. Sunscreen is a must, especially for outdoor weddings without a tent or sufficient shade from trees. While the bride and groom may think ahead, guests may not. I always provide some non-toxic sunscreen when I throw a summer bash.

Many companies produce eco-friendly sunscreens made from vegetable ingredients. If your wedding is by the ocean and guests will be swimming, reef-safe sunscreens protect underwater ecosystems from harmful chemicals.

Non-toxic insect repellent is another must-have item for outdoor weddings. There is nothing worse than a mosquito attack during a wedding ceremony! Protect yourself and your guests by providing eco-safe bug spray. Herbal repellents smell fresh and they won't add any harmful chemicals to the environment. Just imagine the chemical cloud from 100 deet-covered guests!
Following these green tips will keep you comfortable during your Fourth of July celebrations. You can conserve resources while using sustainable products with no extra hassle. Plus, cutting costs is always a bonus. Going green has never been so easy!
