Sometimes the biggest bully you know is you. This new year, become aware of the unkind ways you speak to yourself. Every thought is an affirmation that either lifts you up or drags you down. Your thoughts speak even louder than your words, and it's time to use them wisely. Pay close attention to the negative thoughts you repeat over and over. Then do your best to reframe those thoughts in an empowering way. For instance, if you're constantly thinking, "I'll never reach my desired weight," then reframe that thought to, "I am taking powerful steps towards my desired weight." A simple shift in your thinking can create a miracle.

Empower yourself with loving thoughts. Use my five affirmations for 2014 as a launchpad for new perceptions.

Affirmation 1: My willingness leads the way.
The key to creating powerful change in 2014 is to make resolutions that you really want! Your willingness is crucial to the process of making change stick. When in doubt, use this affirmation. It reminds you that being willing to change is hugely important.

Affirmation 2: When I focus on what is joyful I bring more joy into my life.
This mantra guides you to engage in your hobbies, read inspiring books or listen to music that you love. You don't have to wait around for inspiration to fall in your lap (nor should you). Uncover it! Go after it! Focus on what gets your mojo running and you'll energize every area of your life.

Affirmation 3: I am supported.
This new year, accept support from others. Allowing others to help you is a gift you bestow upon them. Use this mantra to activate your receiving muscles and enjoy the support!

Affirmation 4: I am healthy!
Affirming your health greatly strengthens your overall well-being. Our thoughts inform our energy and our energy dictates our health. Therefore, if you affirm more positive thoughts about your health you'll activate the healing process. Use this affirmation to support your physical wellness and commit to health in 2014.

Affirmation 5: I am happy. I am free.
This affirmation is crucial to living a happy life. The metaphysical text A Course in Miracles says, "When I am upset it is always because I have replaced reality with illusions I've made up." Our fear-based thoughts can quickly take us away from the truthful, loving presence that lives within us. Use this affirmation to stay connected to that truth and committed to your happiness, freedom and peace.

Begin this new year with these five affirmations and activate your presence, your power and your purpose: to be happy.
