Mom Accused Of Leaving Small Kids Alone To Go Get Drunk

A mother in Fort Pierce, Fla., has been arrested and accused of child neglect after allegedly leaving her kids, ages 3 and 9 months, at home so she could get drunk at a friend's house.

Alisha Esch, 20, told police she went to a friend's house in Vero Beach and was drinking, but returned home twice to put both children to sleep before passing out at her friend's house WPBF.com reported.

Esch's alleged alcoholism came to police attention when her father notified them after arriving at the home around 11:30 p.m. and noticing that one of the children had a soiled diaper and the other was yelling, "asking for their mommy," WPTV-TV reported.

Esch didn't return home until 5 a.m. Saturday and then passed out. Police were called about 6 a.m., according to the Fort Pierce Tribune.

She reportedly told police that she has a drinking problem and needs help before the officers arrested her on a child neglect charge and took her to jail, the paper reported.

Her children, a 9-month-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, are currently in the grandfather's custody.
