Amanda Iles, Catholic School Religion Teacher, Charged With Rape Of 14-Year-Old Student

Catholic School Teacher Charged With Rape Of Boy

A former religion teacher at an all-boys Catholic high school is accused of raping a student.

Amanda Iles, 27, faces two counts of rape after police said she had sex with a 14-year-old student from Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y., where she taught religion during the 2012 - 2013 school year, News 12 Westchester reports.

Iles, who moved to California after resigning from her position in June, allegedly had sex with the boy at her Eastchester home following the end of the last school year, according to prosecutors.

No encounters appear to have taken place at the high school, NBC New York reports. Iles only taught there for one year, and the boy no longer attends the school.

According to Digital Journal, the victim's parents went to police after learning about the illicit sexual affair. Investigators said they found photos and videos of the teen's encounters with the teacher on a cell phone belonging to the boy.

"It's shocking to know that you were in such close proximity to someone who would do such a thing like that," Stepinac student Anthony Graziano, who had Iles as a tutor last year, told News 12 Westchester. "But I never saw anything like that from her."

Although the alleged rapes happened over the summer, Stepinac High School officials said they only recently learned about them.

"We are deeply concerned with matters involving the well-being of our students, who are our top priority," Stepinac spokesman Geoff Thompson said in a statement. "Stepinac has and will continue to fully cooperate with any investigation into this matter."

Iles returned to New York from California on Wednesday and surrendered to police, according to NBC New York. She has been released on $25,000 bail.

Iles pleaded not guilty to the charges, and due back in court in December.
