American Idiot In San Francisco: Green Day's Tony Award-Winning Musical Returns To Bay Area (PHOTOS)

"American Idiot" may have had its New York run, but it's always been a Bay Area show. And this month, Green Day's rock opera finally returned.

Audience members at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre gave a standing ovation after the cast rocked through "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and of course, "American Idiot."

The show, Green Day's epic comment on post-9/11 society, originated at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2009 and was quickly scooped up by Broadway. SHN's run is the show's first return to the Bay Area.

No sign of Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt or Tre Cool at the Orpheum yet, but there's still a month to go. Here's hoping.
