Girl Dies After Falling Out Of Party Bus Window

An Oregon girl has died after falling out of a bus window while celebrating her cousin's birthday.

Angie Hernandez, 11, was riding a party bus with family and friends through Downtown Portland on Saturday night, KATU reports. The bus was on its way to a quinceañera, a Latino celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday.

Investigators believe Hernandez leaned against the emergency exit window as the bus turned a corner. The girl fell out when the window opened, according to KPTV. She died at the scene.

Police are calling the incident a tragic accident.

Rick Lycksell, general manager of Five Star Limousine, the Vancouver-based company that owns the bus, told KGW that the bus driver burst into tears when he learned what had happened. He also noted that the driver has had a perfect record while working for the company for the past five years.

Lycksell told KPTV the company has never before had problems with emergency windows, which are normally secured with two latches.

"It's just not something that anyone would have thought could have happened," he said.
