Artspace Launches 'The Next Artspace Artist' Contest On Tumblr, With $1,000 Cash Prize

Announcing A New Contest For Emerging Artists

Artspace.com is hosting a new contest where you can win $1,000 and the chance to create a unique work that will be sold on the site. Will you be deemed, “The Next Artspace Artist?”

Starting this week until September 21, 2012, artists can submit an original work on Artspace's Tumblr page here. The winners will be chosen by a popular vote on the site, which is, the press release states, "achieved by reblogs and other social media/email share options that result in 'votes' or 'likes' of artists’ specific posts." (This is the world we now live in, kids. Go with it.)

Each week, three semi-finalists will be picked, resulting in a panel of 12 artists to choose from during the week of October 1-5, 2012. Dave Harper from the Brooklyn Academy of Music will judge the finalists' submissions, along with Augusto Arbizo of Eleven Rivington gallery, Hrag Vartanian of Hyperallergic.com, Andrew M. Goldstein, editor-in-chief at Artspace.com, as well as Catherine Levene and Chris Vroom of Artspace.com. (We should note that Vroom is also a HuffPost blogger.)

In an e-mail to The Huffington Post, Levene wrote: “Artspace wanted to provide an opportunity for these promising artists to be shown alongside some of the most important and established artists in the world. The Next Artspace Artist will ensure that these gifted contenders have the chance to be seen by art lovers around the globe.”

On October 12, the Grand Prize winner will be announced.
