Aspen's Richest Residents Migrating Away From Area

The Great Recession appears to have sparked an outbound migration of wealth from the Aspen area and is shifting income demographics of the resort area downward.

According to a recently released analysis of 2008 IRS data by Forbes magazine editor Jon Bruner, the per-capita income of tax-filers leaving Pitkin County was about $71,500, while newcomers' average take was $30,000.
