Barbara Schultze, 70-Year-Old Woman, Set To Marry For The First Time In Her Life

Woman To Tie The Knot For The First Time At Age 70

Proving that good things really do come to those who wait, a 70-year-old woman is going to be tying the knot for the very first time this month, ABC News reports.

Barbara Schultze from Frederick, Md., and Jean-Francois Ramos, a 75-year-old widower from France, met on a dating website for seniors four years ago.

"There was nothing that said run the other direction," Schultze told the Frederick News-Post in jest. "He was good enough to stick around for a while."

Schultze, who had a career in real estate, admits that despite the loneliness that has come with being single, she never thought she would get married. "You can be far lonelier in a marriage that isn't working," she said.

But when Ramos entered her life, everything changed.

“We became friends before we loved each other,” said Ramos, whose first wife died in 2003 after 45 years of marriage.

“I’ve been lonely for a long time,” he said. “I found someone I can spend the rest of my life with…It’s never too late.”

According to ABC News, Ramos proposed to Schultze in front of her whole family.

“He got down on his knee,” Schultze said, “and pulled the chair close just in case he couldn’t get back up.”

With over a hundred guests, including Schultze's 92-year-old father and 93-year-old mother, in attendance, the couple will tie the knot on May 27.

"We’re just very happy that Barbara has found somebody that she can spend the rest of her life with,” her mother, Eileen, who has been married for 71 years, told the Frederick News-Post.

Note: There is a discrepancy in the way Schultze's last name has been spelled. We have used the spelling in the Frederick News-Post.
