Why You Should Build a Bridge

How many of us live in the past! Or have fears and beliefs from the past? How many of us let those fears and beliefs ruin our present lives?

We have all had bad stuff happen in our past -- no matter what age! Those of us who integrate these things, resolve them, learn from them and move on are generally healthier and happier.

Candace Pert in her excellent book "Molecules of Emotion'' shares with us the research finding that suggest those of us hanging onto anger or bitterness or old grudges, resentments or pain from the past, have those emotions form the basis of later disease.

So if there is anger, bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness or any other negative emotion sitting inside you, you must deal with it! Find help! Whether it's a counsellor, a book, a discussion that has to happen, a group, forgiveness, prayer -- whatever it is that you need to do to resolve these feelings from your past, DO IT!

If you are in a marriage or relationship, it's a great practice ground for letting go! Forgiving and moving on has to be the number one quality in successful relationships! It's one I am still working on!

I was walking down a street in New Zealand one day behind a mother and her 16-year-old daughter who were obviously having a "discussion!" The young girl stopped, looked at her mother and said "oh Mom, build a bridge and get over it!" Now they were wise words!

Of course I would have been tempted to reprimand the girl if she was my daughter for being cheeky! But I thought about this afterwards and realized it was a great phrase! I now teach people a symbol that you can see me do on Youtube and it's a great stress buster and laugh inducer and is a wonderful way for us to stop taking ourselves so seriously!

There are so many things in life that are really quite trivial but to us they seem HUGE! And really we need to build a LOT more bridges, a LOT more often!

What does it take to upset you? And do you need to build some bridges?!
