Bethenny Frankel's Divorce Harder Than Reality Star Expected

Bethenny Frankel Says She Thought Divorce Would Be 'Amicable'

She may be a smart cookie when it comes to her brand, but Bethenny Frankel admits to having been blindsided when it came to her divorce.

The 42-year-old reality star and Skinnygirl founder told People magazine that she was genuinely shocked that her breakup from Jason Hoppy -- who was featured heavily in her spinoff show, "Bethenny Ever After" -- had turned acrimonious since she filed for divorce in January. The pair have been seen tensely battling it out at divorce court over the custody of their two-year-old daughter, Bryn.

"I really did think it would be amicable. I absolutely did. I wrote that entire statement myself. And every single word, I believed to be true," she told the publication. "Someone said to me recently, 'We see what we want to see.' And I guess, at the time, that's what I did."

This isn't the first time Frankel has spoken out about her divorce. Shortly after filing for divorce, she told Ellen DeGeneres that she felt like a "failure" for splitting with her husband. "I've had kind of the best-worst year ever. So I have to [take] the highs and the lows. Just going through something personal, you have so many different emotions. I feel like a bit of a disappointment to all of you, and I feel like a failure," she said.

Frankel and Hoppy were married for nearly three years, after getting hitched at New York's Four Seasons Hotel in March 2010.
