Beyoncé Balances Motherhood With Her Work And Still Feels Sexy

"Just because you become a mother, doesn't mean you lose who you are."

Beyoncé's newest featurette about the making of her self-titled album starts off strong, and it's no wonder -- the superstar has been an icon of female empowerment since she was a teen.

In the video, Beyoncé talks about how her experience as a new mother to Blue Ivy Carter, her daughter with husband Jay-Z, shaped her artistic decisions for the album and the song "Yoncé/Partition" in particular. With a voice reminiscent of her 2008 alter ego Sasha Fierce, she describes her work as both an escape and a statement.

"I know that finding my sensuality getting back into my body, being proud of growing up -- it was important to me that I expressed that in this music because I know that there are so many women that feel the same thing after they give birth. You can have your child, and you can still have fun, and still be sexy and still have dreams for yourself," says Beyoncé in the video.

A decade and a half into her career with a surprise midnight release that's well on its way to taking Billboard's top spot for the third week in a row, it doesn't look like she'll be slowing down any time soon.
