M. Scott Havens Becomes Digital Chief At Bloomberg Media

Havens will oversee the company's overall digital strategy.

Bloomberg Media CEO Justin Smith announced Tuesday that the company has hired M. Scott Havens as its global head of digital. Havens, the former senior vice president of digital at Time Inc., will begin his new role at Bloomberg on Nov. 16.

“Scott is a digital pioneer and innovator with deep expertise in the business and financial digital media space,” Smith said in a statement. “He has transformed traditional media organizations into digital powerhouses, and has created new category-transforming brands and business models. At Bloomberg, Scott will build on our efforts to create the most influential global digital platform for business and financial leaders.”

Havens will be responsible for the overall digital strategy of the company and will report directly to Smith, whom he previously worked with at Atlantic Media. Bloomberg Media includes Bloomberg Businessweek magazine, Bloomberg TV and the Bloomberg Business website, which launched in January.

"I am thrilled about the opportunity to partner with Justin and the amazing team at Bloomberg Media, and am eager to help accelerate the enviable digital progress that has been made under his stewardship,” Havens said in a statement.

He also shared the news about his new position on Twitter:

Havens joins Bloomberg at a time of transition: Former Bloomberg Businessweek Editor-in-Chief Josh Tyrangiel resigned last month, and Josh Topolsky, Bloomberg's former digital editor, left in July. Multiple sources suggested that Topolsky stepped down as a result of disagreements over his ambitious web expansion plan and his design decisions for the Bloomberg Business website, although the company provided statements implying that the departure was amicable.
