Brady Kicks Off Governor's Race With Bush Echo, Read My Lips No Tax Pledge

With a deep bow to the GOP's conservative roots, state Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, on Monday declared his candidacy for governor, the first of what likely will be a stampede of contenders for the job now held by Democrat Pat Quinn.

Mr. Brady, himself a fiscal and social conservative, underlined both in a Chicago press conference, especially by echoing former President George H.W. Bush's famous line "read my lips: No new taxes."
