'Breaking Bad' Ratings: Season 5 Premiere Sets Series High

'Breaking Bad' Premiere Gets Biggest Ratings Ever

"Breaking Bad" ratings hit an all-time high as Walter White adjusted to his new perch atop the meth trade. The Season 5 premiere of "Breaking Bad" attracted 2.9 million viewers in its original 10 p.m. airing Sunday night, making it the most-watched episode in the series' history, according to a press release from AMC.

"Breaking Bad's" numbers were up across the board: The premiere boasted a 14 percent increase in viewers compared to last season's premiere, including an increase of 34 percent in the coveted 18-49 demographic.

The ratings are a shade below what AMC's other critical darling "Mad Men" pulled in for its Season 5 premiere, which attracted 3.5 million viewers in March.

In the Season 5 premiere of "Breaking Bad," Walter, Jesse Pinkman and Mike Ehrmantraut tried to cover their tracks -- with magnets! -- in the wake of Walter's explosive hit on Gus Fring in the Season 4 finale. HuffPost TV critic Maureen Ryan called the episode "the usual fantastic mix of restraint, observation, economically edited suspense and black comedy."

"Breaking Bad" airs Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.
