Fox News has signed veteran anchor Bret Baier to a new multiyear deal, the network's chairman and CEO, Roger Ailes, announced Wednesday.

Baier will be heavily involved with election coverage. Along with Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace, he will moderate the first Republican primary debate, scheduled to take place on Aug. 6.

"As one of the most trusted anchors in the industry, Bret’s work ethic and style have played an integral role in the leadership of our Washington bureau and the success of the network," Ailes said in a statement. "We are proud that his strong journalistic instincts and political expertise will be a part of FOX News throughout our 2016 election coverage and for many years to come."

Baier, who currently serves as anchor of weekday news show "Special Report," helped lead the network's 2012 and 2014 election coverage.

Baier said he was "incredibly grateful that Roger Ailes has put his trust in me again."
