Brian Johnson Injury: Florida Pitcher Knocked Unconscious During SEC Tournament Game (VIDEO)

College Pitcher Knocked Unconscious By Catcher’s Throw

Florida Gators pitcher Brian Johnson was knocked unconscious after catcher Mike Zunino's throw to second base struck him in the head during Saturday's SEC Tournament game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

After Georgia took an early two-run lead in the first inning, a Bulldogs player attempted to steal second base. Zunino appeared to trip over the batter's foot while trying to throw out the baserunner. The ball nailed Johnson, who had kneeled down with his back to the plate.

The lefty grabbed his head before falling down unconscious. He was on the ground for several minutes before being carted off the field on a stretcher.

According to the Associated Press, Johnson sustained a mild concussion and tests "showed no fractures, bruises or bleeding." He was released from the hospital late Saturday.

The Gators went on to lose the game 4-3. But they came back to beat the Bulldogs 3-2 later that night and won the SEC championship on Sunday by defeating Vanderbilt.
