British Publisher David Tebbutt Killed, Wife Kidnapped In Kenya Resort (VIDEO)

British tourist David Tebbutt has been shot and killed, and his wife kidnapped at a luxury Kenyan resort yesterday reports The Guardian.

The shooting and kidnapping took place at Kiwayu Safari Village (website is down as of this writing), which is close to the border of Somalia and north of Lamu and is considered one of the most exclusive resorts in Kenya of which Mick Jagger is reportedly a fan.

Keynan Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere said, "The husband resisted, and that's why he was shot. They wanted to take the two, but he resisted and that's why he was shot."

According to The Daily Mail, Tebbutt was killed with a single shot to the chest. Tebbutt's wife Judith, 56, "was then forced into a motorboat."

The British Foreign Office has issued the following statement.

We can confirm that two British Nationals were attacked overnight at a beach resort north of Lamu, near the Kenya-Somalia border. One was killed and another kidnapped. We are working closely with the Kenyan authorities to establish further details.

"We have deployed a consular team from our High Commission in Nairobi and are offering all possible support to the family of those involved. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"We are working to secure the safe and swift release of the British National who has been kidnapped and ask those involved to show compassion and release the individual immediately.

The U.S. Department Of State has yet to issue any travel warnings for Kenya, and has not done so since 2010. The British Foreign & Commonwealth Office advises against Kenya travel within 30 km Kenya's border with Somalia.
