Brooklyn Whole Foods Confirmed For Gowanus

Whole Foods Coming To Gowanus

Brooklyn residents rejoice (we think)! The Brownstoner is reporting that it is now official, Whole Foods will be opening their first Brooklyn store at the corner of 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue in Gowanus.

The 52,000 square-foot store will be 25% smaller than they originally designed however it will still include a 20,000 square-foot greenhouse and a 40-foot public esplanade.

Whole Foods is trying to appease neighbors by eliminating the need for a separate parking structure and by including "recharging stations for electric powered vehicles. The lot will also include bike parking in front of the store and along the promenade. Whole Foods Market will also offer delivery for area residents," writes Mark Mobley of Whole Foods in a letter to Craig Hammerman, the District Manager of Community Board 6.

Mobley also promises that the new store will create approximately 350 new jobs with 70% of them full-time positions.

There is no confirmed opening date but the lot has been cleared and appears ready for new construction.
