"Bundling" Activity By Lobbyists Goes Unreported

Political campaigns aren't filing too many bundler reports to the Federal Election Commission, reports The Hill.

Politicians are required to report bundlers -- individuals who collect contributions from others and direct the money to a particular candidate -- to the FEC. But despite lobbying ethics legislation passed by Congress two years ago, and evidence of lots of bundling, much of the activity goes unreported.

The Hill reports that so far 27 campaigns have reported bundlers and 84 bundlers have been listed since the rule went into effect in March, raising $3.6 million for candidates.

Lobbyists and campaign aides say the reason the new disclosure rule doesn't appear to be capturing much activity is that only those bundlers who raise at least $16,000 in contributions over six months have to be reported.
