Carlos Rivera Hernandez: Car Accident Victim Rescued By Strangers

Heroic Strangers Rescue Car Accident Victim

Yesterday morning, a group of devoted and determined passers-by lifted an over-turned pick up truck to free a female victim from beneath the cab of the vehicle, reports AP. She was among three surviving passengers of a single-car accident.

The driver, Carlos Rivera Hernandez was killed when he lost control of his pick-up truck, which then landed roof-down on the westbound side of Interstate 10 near Desert Center, reports My Desert. The Phoenix, Arizona man was 54 years old.

The accident took place around 11:30am and California Highway Patrol opened the roads by approximately 3:15pm -- after the three passengers were airlifted to hospitals nearby with moderate to critical injuries. Traffic was backed up for at least thirty miles.

Investigators are still looking into what caused the crash.

CORRECTION: The pick-up truck did not hit a parked U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle.
