Carole Fisher's 'Sticks In The Mind' Exhibit Documents Exxon Valdez Oil Spill's Effects Decades Later (PHOTOS)

Nationally recognized artist Carole Fisher's exhibit, "Sticks in the Mind: Alaska Oil Spill Project, 1989-2010," opens today at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). She has spent the last 21 years conducting an artistic investigation into the Exxon Valdez disaster, interviewing more than 50 people in the process.

She utilized old and new technologies to create more than 40 exhibit presentations.

MCAD will also be hosting a discussion on the spill, "Lessons Learned from the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, 1989-Today," during which Fisher will talk with some key people affected by the spill.

In the artist's statement, she notes that she has been so passionate about this project because, "Many years later, it is still obvious that the spill altered the face of Alaska in ways much more significant than the erasure of a beauty mark. The social, economic, and ecological impact has been catastrophic."

The exhibit will run from January 14- February 20.
