Cassie Wright, University Of Texas College Republicans President, Allegedly Tweets 'Crack' Rhyme About President Obama

College GOP Leader Allegedly Sends Outrageous Tweet About Obama

Cassie Wright, the current president of the University of Texas College Republicans, allegedly sent out an offensive tweet on Sunday.

Ben Sherman of Burnt Orange Report explains that on December 18, a tweet was sent from an account apparently belonging to Wright that read, "My president is black, he snorts a lot of crack. Holla. #2012 #Obama"

The account is now protected, so the tweet is inaccessible. Nevertheless, HuffPost's Elise Foley was able to capture the below screenshot of the tweet before the account was set to private:

The tweet comes just about a month after the previous president of the organization, Lauren Pierce, tweeted, "Y'all as tempting as it may be, don't shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we've EVER had! #2012." Pierce later apologized for the post, which was written hours after a man was arrested in connection with two bullets that struck the White House while the President was out of town.

The Austin American-Statesman reports that Pierce retweeted the "crack" post.

Per Burnt Orange Report, Wright's ascension within the UT College Republicans to the role of president was not due to a resignation by Pierce:

Despite widespread calls to do so, former UT College Republicans President Lauren Pierce did not resign from office. On December 1st, the College Republicans held elections and voted current president Cassie Wright into office. Amazingly and disappointingly, Pierce still serves as secretary of the statewide Texas College Republicans.

Although the "crack" post came from what appears to be Wright's Twitter account, Wright has not officially confirmed that she sent the tweet. Neither the Statesman nor KVUE Austin were able to reach Wright for clarification.

Per KVUE, a few people who know Wright were taken aback by her post. From their report:

"I was really surprised by her Tweet last night. It was clearly offensive and it definitely had that strain of racism in it," said Huey Fischer, president-elect of the U.T. College Democrats. "She seems like a really smart girl. She's a really upbeat person. someone who seems politically correct most of the time."

Fischer added, "I don't know if her account was hacked or not. It could definitely have been just a careless remark." KVUE adds more detail:

A woman in San Antonio identifying herself as Cassie Wright's grandmother says the Tweet does not sound like her granddaughter and she believes that Cassie's Twitter account may have been hacked.

Burnt Orange also reports that this isn't the first inflammatory comment to emerge from Wright's online universe. According to the publication, a message posted from Wright's Facebook account asked, "What kind of messed up world is it when I'm studying hard in the library and the Asian guy next to me is watching America's Next Top Model episodes on his laptop??"
