Celebrities Who Have Weighed In On Miley

As Miley Cyrus has dominated headlines over the past few months -- for her twerking, her sexed-up VMAs performance and her emotional, nudity-filled "Wrecking Ball" video, it's only natural that various boldface names would weigh in on her controversial antics.

Though Cyrus assured Matt Lauer that she never intended to offend people, and even poked fun at the backlash in a "Saturday Night Live" spoof, several stars have expressed concern or criticism for the young pop star while others have come to her defense.

Here are some of their comments.

Elton John

"I look at Miley Cyrus and I see a meltdown waiting to happen," John told The Australian. "And she's so young! But she's got two records in the top 20, so who is going to stop her?"

"WTF is up with Miley's new music video?" Grimes tweeted in September. "I mean, I don't know the girl but if I did I'd demand she bath twice, put some clothes on and give her a big hug...looks like she needs it."

"I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way 'cool' to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping," O'Connor wrote in an open letter to Cyrus."Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, and it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent."

"She knows how I feel about the whole partying thing," Lovato told MTV News in July. "I love her to death and I'm always like, 'Just be careful' and she's like, 'Dude, I'm chilling. It's fine.' But I care for her so much that I'm so protective, but she's good. She's got a good head on her shoulders."
P!nk

"She's really freaking talented; she's beautiful," P!nk told E! Online. "She can sing her ass off and to go up there and do that? She's cheating herself and she's cheating the rest of us... She can do what she wants. People can like it if they want. I'm not going to buy it. She can do better. I've seen her do better."
Joan Rivers

"This is such a bad message to send out to young girls, and young girls are the ones that have been following her," Rivers told "Entertainment Tonight." "...That's what's so sad about this whole thing. She went one step too far." She added, "We get it: You're no longer Hannah Montana...but you can do it with a little more grace. ... If I had a young daughter now that would be it. We [wouldn't] go to her concerts anymore. This has gone too far."
Cher

"I just thought all of it was terrible. Outfit, terrible. Dancing, terrible. Singing, average. Performance, terrible," Cher said of Cyrus' VMA performance during an appearance on CBS' "Sunday Morning." "If she'd just come out there and kicked ass, even though I don't think that I would have loved it, I would have respected it, and I would have appreciated it. That whole area that she was in was not something that I would gravitate to myself, but I would have thought, 'Boy, you did that. I give you props.'"
Lady Gaga

“I just think everybody needs to lighten up and leave her alone,“ Gaga says at about the 8-minute, 30-second mark. “Because it’s pop music; everybody’s entitled to their own artistic expression and if you have a problem with it just change the channel.”“I don’t understand the obsessive need to constantly go on and on about hating things all the time because, what, she’s 20 years old and, if anything, I give her props," Gaga said on "Watch What Happens Live." "She’s growing up in front of the entire world and maybe she’s not so happy with the things she did in her career when she was younger and she wants to be free. So let her do what she wants.”
