Is there a double standard when it comes to weight gain in relationships?

That's the question HuffPost Divorce blogger D.A. Wolf asked in a blog post Monday. Inspired by relationship advice given in a recent issue of Elle magazine, Wolf suggests that women are expected to accept their husbands' or boyfriends' weight gain, but when it's the wife who's put on the pounds, men have cause to take action.

"Apparently, when it comes to the fat wife, we admonish her for letting herself go and we secretly sympathize with the man in the picture. We excuse his nights out, his wandering eye, his slip-slide into infidelity -- and even his claim that weight gain justifies divorce," Wolf writes. "Why must we dismiss the matter for one sex and point an accusatory finger at the other? And do we really think that 'she got fat' is a free pass to cheat or justification for divorce?"

But is weight gain ever really a valid excuse for cheating? We were curious to know what our readers thought, so we posed the question on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Click through the slideshow below to see what readers had to say, then share your thoughts in the comments.
