After a long snowless stretch that was only briefly disrupted, Chicago saw a dusting of lake-effect snow for Christmas. Most forecasts had predicted the city would be snowless for a second holiday in a row.

Thankfully the holiday weather in 2012 is less intense than some Christmases of Chicago's past. Christmas in Chicago, 1951 was a full-blown blizzard, blanketing the city in 33 inches between Dec. 14 and Christmas Eve that year.

Whether snow is falling or not, the city's Christmas spirit has always been strong, from the downtown window displays to the lighting of the Daley Plaza tree. For Christmas 2012, HuffPost takes a look at yuletide memories from Chicago's past.
