Chris Cornell Covered Pearl Jam's 'Footsteps' For Jimmy Fallon

It's Pearl Jam Week on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," and to kick off the festivities, Fallon invited Chris Cornell onto the show for a performance. The Soundgarden lead singer was joined by The Avett Brothers on the Monday night broadcast for a cover of Pearl Jam's "Footsteps," a track that has ties to Cornell as well. The music for the "Footsteps," which was written by Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard, was first used by Cornell and Gossard on the Temple of the Dog song "Times of Trouble." (Temple of the Dog, a supergroup that combined members of Soundgarden and what would become Pearl Jam, was created in the wake of Mother Love Bone lead singer Andrew Wood's death.) "Footsteps" was later released by Pearl Jam as the B-side on the single for "Jeremy." The song is still played by the band during their live concerts, most recently making an appearance on the set list of Saturday night's show at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
