Former Vikings Punter Chris Kluwe: Adrian Peterson 'Deserves A Second Chance'

The fervor surrounding Adrian Peterson's alleged child abuse has died down in the NFL, as criticism of Roger Goodell and the NFL as a whole have been the targets of the most recent rage. According to a former teammate, Peterson should have another chance to play in the NFL.

"He was one of the most down-to-earth superstars I ever met," former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe said on HuffPost Live on Friday. "I think the issue here is the fact that how Adrian was brought up was that he was taught it was OK to beat your child as as a form of discipline because he was beaten as a child. I hear a lot of people use the 'it's culture, it's someone's culture' argument, but the fact is that no matter what your culture is, if your actions leave a child bloody and scarred then that is ethically wrong. It didn't seem like something AP would ever do."

Kluwe went on to compare Peterson's case to that of Michael Vick, who has successfully resuscitated his public persona after serving a two-year prison sentence for running a dogfighting ring. Vick is now an advocate for dog and animal safety and went on to find success in the NFL after his release from jail.

"I think AP deserves a second chance, and I think he can be a great role model," Kluwe told host Marc Lamont Hill. "In order to get that second chance, you have to show genuine contrition and you have to understand why your actions were harmful, why they were wrong."
