Chris Rooney Injury: NHL Referee Takes Slap Shot To Neck During Avalanche-Stars Game (VIDEO)

NHL Referee Gets Nailed By Puck

An NHL official was in the wrong place at the wrong time during the Avalanche-Stars game on Monday night.

Just a few minutes into the first period, referee Chris Rooney dropped to the ice behind Colorado's net after taking a deflected slap shot to the neck from hulking 6'7" defenseman Jamie Oleksiak.

Rooney remained face down for several minutes while being treated by a medical trainer. A stretcher was being brought out, but Rooney was said to have skated off the ice to a standing ovation.

NHL security representative Sam Singleton said that the official ''checked out OK,'' but neither the league and Avalanche haven't released any additional updates, per the Associated Press.
