Christina Applegate Turned Down Elle Woods In 'Legally Blonde'

Christina Applegate almost did the Bend and Snap.

The "Vacation" star told ET Online that she could have played Reese Witherspoon's Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde." But the actress was hesitant to play another ditzy blonde following her "Married … with Children" character Kelly Bundy. "The script came along my way and it was right after I had just finished 'Married,' and it was a blonde who in that first script didn't win it but ends up going to Yale, or Harvard, I don't remember," Applegate said of the 2001 movie. "I got scared of kind of repeating myself."

While Appelgate says Witherspoon "deserved" the part and "did a much better job" than she ever could, she does sort of regret her choice. "What a stupid move that was, right?" she told ET Online. But Applegate wasn't the only '90s TV star in mind for the role. Tori Spelling was also considered to play Elle Woods, and Chloë Sevigny turned down Selma Blair's role as Vivian.
