CNN 'New Day' Week 1 Ratings Show Growth

CNN 'New Day' Ratings Show Growth

CNN's new morning show ushered in some good news for the network.

Following its debut last week, "New Day" demonstrated ratings growth compared to the same week last year, a time when CNN hit record-low numbers. The show, co-hosted by Chris Cuomo and Kate Bolduan, brought in an average of 302,000 total viewers, coming in third place behind Fox News and MSNBC. "New Day" also placed third in the coveted 25-54 age demographic, attracting 102,000 viewers, which was just slightly higher than MSNBC's "Morning Joe." The show was also up compared to the week before its premiere.

The new morning show has been a priority of CNN's new president, Jeff Zucker, since he took over the network in January. Known for his success in morning TV programming, Zucker announced he would revamp CNN's morning block and create a brand new show. He built "New Day" a new studio and introduced an anchoring format similar to broadcast morning shows. Cuomo and Bolduan serve as co-hosts and former KTLA host Michaela Pereira serves as the show's newsreader.

The program's debut show last week received mixed reviews, with some critics saying that the show had some kinks to work out but was ultimately good for the network.
