Arizona maintained its perfect record thanks to what looked to many like some flawed officiating.
Colorado guard Sabatino Chen appeared to launch a tie-breaking three-point shot just before time expired in regulation on Monday night between the Wildcats and the Buffaloes. After that shot dropped through the net, Colorado celebrated and Arizona seemed to have been dealt its first loss of the the 2012-2013 campaign.
Not so fast.
Officials conferred and went to the replay. To the shock of the Buffs and the relief of the Hoopcats, the refs waived it off. Although Arizona coach Sean Miller would later acknowledge to The Associated Press that the call "could have gone either way," the teams entered overtime even, 80-80.
Of course, the No. 3 Wildcats dominated in overtime and won 92-83 to stay unbeaten.
"If it's the wrong call then I'm really sick to my stomach," Colorado coach Tad Boyle said after the game, via Ryan Thorburne of the Boulder Camera.
Then Boyle saw the replay and had even stronger things to say..
"Get rid of instant replay. In basketball, football, human error is part of our game. If human error is part of the game, let the officials call the game. Players, coaches and officials will make mistakes. It's part of the game. We spend all this money on replays and we still can't get it right. Get rid of it. " Boyle told ESPN.com after seeing the replay.
On the winning side of the controversy, Miller told reporters after the game that his team was "very fortunate to leave this game with a win."
