Cook County Sheriff's 'Free TV' Sting Operation Nabs More Than 100 Fugitives (VIDEO)

Cook County Sheriff's police arrested more than 100 fugitives last month during a sting operation that lured wanted criminals to a county government warehouse with the promise of free TVs and other electronics.

“Operation C.W. Marketing” was a two-week sting operation that began in early September, when investigators with the sheriff's Central Warrants Unit sent invitations to the last known addresses of 10,000 offenders wanted on warrants asking them to test new home electronics and offering $75 in cash and the device being tested in exchange for feedback, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

More than 50 fugitives made appointments themselves to come to a South Side warehouse surrounded by signs and balloons where undercover officers were carrying empty boxes for plasma TVs and video game systems.

Several fugitives went to great lengths to get to the warehouse where they were immediately arrested, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart told NBC Chicago. One suspect took a bus to Chicago from Wisconsin, and another sprinted several blocks after calling to explain he would be late to his appointment.

"The only thing [one offender] did not do was handcuff himself, which we agreed to help him with," Dart joked during a press conference.

The operation resulted in 102 arrests and the clearing of 106 warrants--15 felonies, 72 misdemeanors and 15 from civil courts, and more than $5,000 was collected in fees from towing vehicles related to the operation, the Sun-Times reports. Those arrested range in age from 19 to 66 years old and were wanted on charges ranging from violent felonies to unpaid child support.
