Craft Of The Day: Acorn Tacks

Craft Of The Day: Acorn Message Tacks

There are many signs of autumn: The changing leaves, pumpkins appearing on stoops and the startling "thud" of a surprisingly fast acorn hitting our car roofs. Or sometimes, our heads. And if we're lucky that year, we won't accidentally fall from stepping on the slippery nut/seed. If your part of the country does not have such exciting seasonal activities, we salute you. (And if you're now feeling left out, know that you can get acorns from craft stores.)

But if you do find yourself besieged by acorns, today's Craft Of The Day gives a really great idea for using their caps: Turn them into message-board tacks. It's almost too simple to even outline, but we'll do it anyway.

To make them, you'll need:
Acorns (or if you're buying them, acorn caps)
Thumb tacks
Hot glue gun

To assemble: Remove the cap from the acorn by pulling from its peaked end, brushing off any dirt. Then, dab hot glue inside the acorn cap. Finish by pressing the flat-end of the tack into the hot glue. Let dry.

And, be sure to check out our other great crafts in our Craft Of The Day slideshow below.
